My favourite shampoos for Asian hair

best shampoo for asian hair

How many bottles of shampoo do you use a year? Because I probably use 2 at most. (I swear I shower regularly ok?) Maybe I’m just conservative? But look, I’m being extremely environmentally friendly here while still being able to give you my favourite (more like my most recommended) shampoos for hair like mine, Asian hair, (or any hair honestly. Let’s not discriminate anyone here) that you can buy in drugstores (yAz cHeAP stUFf) . So follow my lead amigos.

Honestly, I didn’t think the shampoo brand was this important until I came across this awful shampoo that was so not worth my money. It makes my head itch sometimes and it doesn’t make my hair look any better than a cheaper one would. So this is to all the shampoos I’ve loved before.

Disclaimer! These are things that worked well on my hair. When I went to the Lush store and was looking for a shampoo to buy as a present for my friend, they didn’t let me (wow nice people much). They said that it really depends on the hair type. So of course you could have completely different opinions on all of the following.

Here is an appreciation post of my hair because thank you mom and dad for giving me good hair genes. #iphonecamerakillinit

HASK Manoi Coconut Oil Nourishing Shampoo

If you would ask me for my one true love in terms of shampoos, it’d be this. I used this for about a year and I never wanted to let go. It smells so good. Every time I washed my hair and turned around, my friends could smell the beautiful coconut smell.

It softened my hair (if that’s possible for my hair lol) and left it looking super healthy and shiny. And by soft, I do not just mean touch-my-hair-it-soft, I also mean structure-wise. I could go to sleep with my hair a bit wet and still wake up with practically straight her. my hair was so soft (or strong idk) and strengthened that it would just straighten itself.

Now I know, ya’ll gonna be like ‘But you have straight her anyway!’ Well yes, I do. And I know I’m a bit obnoxious with this but it is not straight the way it should be. With the wrong shampoo, my hair feels dense and keeps all the dents and kinks from all the tosseling around in bed. So that is why it is my favourite shampoo for Asian hair like mine.

The shampoo is free of sulphate and parabens, so it doesn’t break down your hair structure and hopefully doesn’t make your head itch. Just buy it. It’s beautiful. I personally bought it in a drug-store (e.g.: DM) so I am sure it cannot be too difficult to find. Otherwise you can find my favourite shampoo here.

A litte extra!

I bought the HASK Argan Oil Repairing Conditioner, and I used it together with the Lush shampoo and my hair feels so good. Like I immediately felt the difference in my hair. I didn’t know that was possible but it works wonders on my hair.

LUSH Jason and the Argan Oil Shampoo Bar

First of all, I know having a shampoo bar looks a bit “old school” and you may think that it won’t have the same effect as your usual shampoo, but it’s by far the opposite. Think about all the plastic you can reduce by using this? On top of that, it foams up super nicely and generally is super easy to use (my boyfriend was able to use it ok). Honestly, in comparison to normal shampoos (like Pantene) I really felt the difference in my hair. Awestruck.

Listen up, I used this twice a day for like 5 days straight (I’m not a maniac that needs to wash their hair this often normally okay. I was on holiday and as you know, your hair must be washed after you dip into the ocean) and hold up now, here comes the worst part: I didn’t use conditioner. Yet, my hair was still really nice. So I am convinced that this thing works wonders.

If you want see what my hair looked like during this holiday check out this post:

My sister and I had this bar at home for about a month and it seems as if it is still the same size as we bought it. And for those 5 days on holiday, it was not just me but also my boyfriend that used this to wash his hair twice a day. So, don’t be skeptical about the size (lolololol). Those 11€ will be worth it and last a lifetime. So just get it.

Inecto Pure Coconut Shampoo

As you can start to tell, I am a huge fan when it comes to paraben-and sulfate-free shampoos. While there is not much I can say about shampoos at this point… I love the smell of coconut, and I used these bottles for like several months and it’s great okay and smells amazing. The bottles are pretty big too and will definitely have your back (or more like hair lol) for several months (unless you use it like its yah energy drink after a full body work-out. But honestly at that point, what are you doing).

You can get it at any drugstore and it’s like 6€ for both shampoo and conditioner. A good investment? Idk I think it’s affordable okay. I mean what can coconut oil not do? It is the remedy to everything apparently.

Dry skin? Coconut oil. Healthy cooking oil? Coconut oil. Teeth whitening? Coconut oil. Antibacterial and natural deoderant? Coconut oil. Keeps pet fur from catching insects? Coconut oil. Hair and eyelash growth? Coconut oil. There is nothing it can’t.

Nature Box Avocado Oil Shampoo

Avocado has, much like coconut oil, evolved to become the magic ingredient. I have come to love eating avocados, and they are healthy? It’s a win-win. So here is just another great shampoo to be put on a list because it does what it is supposed to do. Keeps my hair from being frizzy and overall softens it. Get it here.

I know you may say, well is it really any better than those Pantene or Syoss? Because I got other things to spend my money on.

To be quite honest, I think that these shampoos are totally okay to use. Sometimes, even good! I personally do not bring my own shampoo with me when I travel so I am very honestly not picky when it comes to using a different shampoo for a short while. But for some reason, they make my hair quite frizzy especially right after washing my hair. Usually my hair calms down overnight but I do feel like it leaves my hair and scalp a lot drier than my own shampoos.

Shampoos I do not recommend

Guhl Repair & Balance Shampoo – with Manuka Honey and Milk

The whole reason I started this post was to rant about this shampoo. I cannot believe how expensive it is, and yet did not perform at all? At least not on my hair. I never even knew that shampoo could be bad? I mean I have used Pantene, GlissKur, Head and Shoulders and I never complained. But this. I just cannot believe the price is so high.

So it’s a no from me.

Little tip!

In especially if you hair dry your hair (or apply other heat sources to your hair), try to use some protectic spray or serum.

When I am travelling, I don’t care if I use a different shampoo or don’t have conditioner. The most important thing to me is having: hair oil or serum. It honestly makes such a huge difference to my hair (even if it’s all in my head. It makes me feel like my hair is healthier). I use this one (for life).

All the best,

Thanh
