Day 4 in Seoul!
First of all, I have to say that we didn’t really go into the Ihwa Mural Village. It just turned out that it’s very far from the station. Like an incredibly long walk (alright maybe 20-30 mins, more or less. But I definitely did not think it would take so long. Moreover you have to go uphill so be prepared for that). Maybe we just took bad directions but by the time we arrived at the sign that said that the Mural village was starting. We had to get going to make sure we would make to our Museum Tour. That being said. Enjoy the few shots I got from even before actually being in the Mural Village.
So if you have lots of other things to do, make sure to get up early! Because this is one of the places where you dont have to wait for anyone to open for you. (Interestingly, many places in Seoul didn’t start business until probably 10 am) Moreover, on the way you can enjoy this amazing view of the city with the morning sun shining on a good day.
Just for your information (because I actually did not know this), Seoul is surrounded by hills and mountains (even in the city it can be quite hilly? Getting down from Ihwa Mural Village was honestly very steep). So, if you are into this and you have time to spare I heard it’s super recommended to go hiking around the city! It’s supposed to be incredibly beautiful. But I am personally not much of a hiker (wow what a surprise. do i eve do sports?) I kindly asked to avoid any sort of activities related to that for our trip.
Although we weren’t directly in the Mural Village yet, it was already so incredibly colourful. Like a houses from a colouring book. Although in the picture you see above on the left may look like posing, it was just a good shot of her filming us. I think you will be able to get a better idea of how pretty place was, once the vlog of this trip is finished.
And here, we were already on our way to the next subway stop. On photos you can still see some of the wall that used to protect the city. I love how different this is from the walls and towers that were built in Europe during the Middle Ages. Because here, they built these balconies with these beautiful roofs. I just like the idea of how two completely different cultures built something so different and yet with the same purpose. I find it –kind of idk- fascinitating I guess.
If you would like to know more about that, Seoul City Wall Museum is right next to Ihwa Mural Village, so you can kill 2 flies with one stone hahaha I’m sorry i couldn’t it’s just so funny I mean hit of course.
How to get to Ihwa Mural Village
If you want to take the same path as we did (to see the landscape and city on the way), you can follow the directions below. But again warning it’s a long walk. But I honestly don’t think there is a much better option.
- Ride the subway and get down at Hyehwa Station (Line 4), Exit 2. Walk for about 200m. Once you see the street called Dongdung-gil, turn left.
- Keep walking until you reach the Lock Museum.
- After about 50 meters, turn right in a street called Naksan Gongson-gil then walk until you reach Naksan Park.
- From there (and before) you will see signs pointing to the Mural Village
Please remember that it is a residential area. Therefore, please be respectful.
